Try the latest technology
Equipped with four NVIDIA V100 accelerators, the IBM AC922 is available for testing.
Konfiguration of the test server IBM Power System AC922:
2× 16-core 2.60 GHz (3.09 GHz Turbo) POWER9
4× 16GB SXM2 NVIDIA Volta V100 GPU
2× PCIe3 LP 1.6TB SSD NVMe adapter
2× 960 GB 2.5in SATA/SSD Disk Drive
16× 32 GB DDR4 2666 RDIMM (512GB RAM total)
The AC922 Power System has been developed by the OpenPOWER Foundation consortium based on the requirements of a high performance deep learning platform, AI, high-performance analytics, or high-performance computing (HPC). The result is currently the most powerful supercomputer platform that was created through the collaboration of IBM, NVIDIA, Mellanox and many others.
The main advantages of the IBM Power System AC922
The IBM Power System AC922 (Newel Development Label) is currently the most powerful server solution on the market. The server is equipped with POWER9 processors, which have a number of unique technologies. The main focus is on high throughput, a fundamental parameter for processing large volumes of data. Unique technologies include:
- NVLink 2.0 – Processor-integrated interface for ultra-fast NVIDIA GPU accelerator connections directly to CPU
- CAPI interface for high-speed connection of I / O components directly to the processor – eg I/O cards, FPGA accelerators, ultra-fast drives
- PCI Express 4.0 – currently the only server on the market equipped with a new generation of PCI bus
The IBM AC922 supports up to four NVIDIA V100 (NVLink version), the most powerful GPU accelerators and up to six GPU accelerators using water cooling. Unique is the connection of these accelerators with processors using the NVLink interface.
Scalability of IBM Power Servers
Interesting is the possibility of scaling IBM servers. With the addition of additional GPU accelerators, performance is growing almost linearly. Nice example of use such a technology in real world is the CORAL supercomputer built by IBM for U.S. Department of Energy (DOA). According to the TOP500, this supercomputer is the world’s most powerful computer.
